Growing cannabis at home in Maryland
Adults 21 and over may grow up to two cannabis plants at home, kept out of public view. The limit is per household, not per person, and a landlord can still say no.
Two plants per household
The limit belongs to the home, not to each adult in it. If three adults share a house, the house can have two plants, not six.
A registered patient who is 21 or older may grow two more, for four in total. No home may have more than four plants, however many patients live there.
Who can grow
You must be 21 or older to grow. Nobody under 21 may grow cannabis plants.
Out of public view
State law says plants must be out of public view.
Renters and landlords
Landlords and property owners can ban growing on their property. Read your lease or ask before you plant anything. The same goes for condo and HOA rules; check what yours say.
Seeds and clones
Some dispensaries sell seeds or young plants. Not every shop stocks them, and stock changes, so call before you make the trip.
Do not sell a plant, clone, or seed. Do not give one to anyone under 21.
Going over the limit
Growing more than two plants, or more than four when a registered patient who is 21 or older grows the extra plants, is a crime. If more than one person in the house wants to grow, agree on who's growing what before anything goes in the soil.
Every shop in our directory of licensed Maryland dispensaries comes from the state’s own license list, with hours and payment details where the shop publishes them.
